What is in the box?

The biggest question before ordering a wood map is rarely the price. It is whether the map comes as a pile of loose pieces in a cardboard box. Here is the full answer – layer by layer.

This is how the box is constructed – six layers from the engraved lid to the base plate.

Six parts, one map

1. The sliding lid. A laser-cut plywood lid with an engraved world map. It’s the first thing the recipient sees – and the reason the box can be gifted exactly as it is, without wrapping.


2. The assembly instructions. Placed on top, right under the lid. Image-based and numbered, so you don't have to go looking for a video before you start.


3. The map pieces. Each country is cut individually and placed in its own slot. In separate compartments on the side are the compass, the sailing ship, the airplanes, and the travel pins.


4. The foam. Keeps every single piece in place during transport, so nothing comes loose or rubs against each other along the way.


5. The frame. The plywood box supports the weight and ensures the box can be shipped across the country without being crushed.


6. The base plate. Another layer of foam underneath everything – the part no one thinks about, and the one that saves the map if the package is set down hard.

From box to wall in under an hour

1. Lay out the pieces. Remove the lid and leave the map in the foam while you sort them. The pieces are already roughly in the positions where they belong – use that as a guide.


2. Attach the wall template. The template is full-size. Tape it up, check with a spirit level, and mark the corners. This step determines if the map will be straight.


3. Build from the center outwards. Start with the large continents and work your way out towards the islands. The adhesive sets immediately, so take your time to align it before pressing down.


4. Add the details. Compass, planes, sailing ship – and finally the travel pins for the countries you have visited. This is where the map stops being a product and becomes yours.

Allow 30–45 minutes. For size L and XL, it goes faster with two people – one holding, one aiming.

Four questions we often receive

Do I need tools?
No. The wall template and fasteners are in the box – 3M strips or small pins, depending on the set. A pencil and a spirit level are all you need to provide yourself.


Can I give the box away unopened?
Yes. The lid is engraved on the outside precisely because the box is intended to be placed under a Christmas tree or on a gift table without wrapping.


What if the map needs to be moved later?
The parts are attached with adhesive pads. If you need to take the map down and hang it up again, you should expect to replace the pads – the wooden pieces themselves can withstand being moved.


How much space does the box take up?
It matches the size of the map, but is flat – the 2D panel is only 6–8 mm thick. An M-sized map comes in a box that will easily fit into a standard car, and can be stored upright in a closet until it is ready to be used.
